Be Grateful in All Things

(Translated by Douglas Shaw)

A face filled with gratitude is the most beautiful. In the Tzu Chi world, wherever Tzu Chi people give and receive, they spread gratitude far and wide.

What Master Cheng Yen thinks and talks about most is gratitude. She often tells Tzu Chi members: "'Good people do good things, and good things are done by good people.' It is because some people are in difficulties that we have the chance to help them and thus are able to do good deeds. Therefore we must be grateful to them. When our families support our good work, we should be even more grateful."

Gratitude at all times, in all things, towards all people-this is the special characteristic of the Tzu Chi culture.
