Sleepers

(Translated by Mike Lee, Northern CA)

In Chinese, we often say, "The gateway between the years is fast approaching." But in her race with time, Master Cheng Yen passes a gateway between each second. She says that time can build character, bring success to our endeavors, and accumulate merits. Human life must be a race for goodness. Every second of every minute, we must strive. We must learn to pass the gateway between each second and make good use of every present moment.

If we usually sit around with nothing to do and let time pass by in vain, our life will slowly deteriorate in lazy slumber. If you allow your conscience and abilities to sleep like this through your whole life, you can only be called a "sleeper."

Therefore, every day is the beginning of your human existence and every moment is your wake-up call.
